Strategy Map shows expected ratio of points scored by 4 team combinations of Hyderabad Hunters against 4 team combinations of Bengaluru Topguns

Strategy Map shows expected ratio of points scored by all strategies of Mumbai Rockets against all strategies of Awadhe Warriors.

Color = Hyderabad Hunters Points / Mumbai Rockets Points.

Green suggests better chances for Hyderabad Hunters. The checkerboard pattern highlights the effect of ‘Stacking Strategy’.

Chart Analysis

All Point Ratios look high favorable for Hyderabad Hunters. The main difference in the 4 HH teams are position of Mens Singles players and Jwala Gutta’s partner – either Markis Kido or Carsten Mogensen.

In such a scenario, Awadhe is likely to use either Strategy AW1 or AW2. Playing Mathias Boe in both Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles will give Mumbai the advantage, if Mathias is able to play in a seamless manner in both matches.

Strategy Scenario 1 :HH3 / BT2  (Hyderabad 4 – Bengaluru 3)(Recommended Strategy for Both Teams)

Premier Badminton League: Match 2

Men’s Singles : Lee Chong Wei plays Sameer Verma. My opinion here is of no value.

Men’s Doubles :Markis Kido,Carsten Mogensen against Hoon Thien How,Khim Wah Lim. We believe Bengaluru Topguns will hold the edge here, especially because they are a regular Men Doubles Team. Bengaluru’s best bet would be make this match their Trump.

Women’s Singles : Supanida Katethong vs Suo Di. One sided match with SK winning. But not much data was available on Suo Di, she might just spring a surprise. Good idea for HH to make this match their trump. I know it sounds absurd to have Supanida Katethong as trump when Lee Chong is playing, but good to save Lee Chong for a rainy day.

Mixed Doubles :Markis Kido,Jwala Gutta against Joachim Fischer Nielse,Ashwini Ponnappa. Bengaluru team holds the edge, but going to be one of those close matches.

Repeat Men’s Singles :Parupalli Kashyap against Srikanth Kidambi. Previous history all in favor of Kashyap, but recent form in Kidambi’s favor. Should be a close match. Numbers however showing a big skew towards Kashyap.

How we calculated  the probabilities?

We created a list of all likely team combinations for both teams. Win probabilities for any two players were calculated from their historical data and current form. Expected team scores were estimated for each combination of team strategies. Best strategies are listed based on simple game theory rules.
