Mumbai Rockets beat Delhi Acers 6, -1 to register their first win on home turf
The 2017 edition of the premier badminton league will get underway in the financial capital of India-Mumbai- on Tuesday. The opening day of the Mumbai leg will see the hosts, the Mumbai rockets take on Delhi Acers.
The first match was the men’s singles contest between Jorgensen of Acers and Jayaram of Mumbai Rockets. This was the trump match for Delhi Acers. The first set saw Rocket’s Jayaram was flying high against Jorgensen and got an early lead. Jayaram continues his form in the second set and got a straight win 15-14, 11-4 and Acer’s lost their trump match.
The second match was men singles where ace Indian shuttler HS Prannoy defeated Acer’s Son Wan Ho. The first set saw a narrow win by Prannoy. Son Wan Ho took an early lead in the second set but got evaporated soon. Prannoy displayed fine performance and won against SonWanHo by 11-9, 11-9.
The third match was mixed doubles between Yong Dae/Nadiezda Zieba & Ivanov/Maneesha. The first set was dominated by Dae/Zieba. Ivanov/Maneesha came back in the second third and scored 11-8. The third set won by Rockets and with this third straight victory, Rockets clinched the tie against Acers.
The fourth match was women singles Sung Ji Hyun of Rockets against Tanvi Lad of Acers. Sung Ji Hyun takes the first game by 11-6. Both the shuttlers were sweating it out to win the match for their team but Sung Ji Hyun won the second set and ended at 11-6, 11-8 . This was the trump match for Rockets and they got it right, made 4 in a row.
The fifth match was men doubles Yong Dae/Nipithphon of Rockets and Ivanov/Sozonov of Acers. The rockets finished the proceedings with a thumping victory 11-9, 11-9. The vociferous crowd support might also played a crucial role in lifting the spirits of the hosts.
