Saina stars as Awadhe Warriors trump Delhi Acers.

The Awadhe Warriors, plus their skipper Saina Nehwal edged out the Delhi Acers 6- -1 in the fifth match of the double-header in the Lucknow-leg of PBL 2017.

The first match was between Shem Goh/ Kido of Warriors and Ivanov/ Dewalkar of Acers. The Warriors kept an early lead against the Acers at the break of the opening game. Warriors thrilled the home crowd with their powerful smashes. Dewalkar showed some of his best but it wasn’t enough. Shem Goh/Kido nailed it in straight sets 11-4, 11-4.

The second match was women singles between Saina of Warriors and Jindapol of Acers. Acer took an early lead, but warrior had a comeback. Then went on neck-to-neck. Jindapol took an early lead in the second set also but Saina got the last 14-12, 11-7 and hence, warriors won their trump match.

The third match was between Warriors’s Kidambi and Acers’s Jorgensen. In the first set nothing was separating them till 9-9 but Kidambi clinched the game. Kidambi had an early lead in the second set but Dane made a comeback. Jorgensen took advantage of Kidambi’s errors & won the set. The third set saw an early lead by Kidambi but Jorgensen made it tough and then match turned out to be a complete humdinger. Kidambi defeated Jorgensen by 11-9, 11-13, 11-9.

The fourth match was a thrilling mixed doubles between Gutta/ Ivanov of Acers and Issara/Amitrapai of Warriors. The first set had an early lead by the Thai pair. This set had long rallies. The Thai pair took the game. Acers struggled to maintain an early lead and the Thai won in straight sets 12-10,11-5.

The fifth match was a trump match for Acers, playing Son Wan Ho against WK Vincent of Warriors. In the first set Son Wan Ho took an early lead but Vincent made a superb comeback. The set went in favor of Vincent 11-8. The second set was a complete thriller resulted in an emphatic victory for Vincent 11-8, 11-6.
